When does Eternals come to Disney Plus?
Eternals is ready to join Disney Plus' Marvel movie back catalog. That's right, well over two months since the superhero flick launched in theaters, it's finally set to land on Disney's streaming platform on Wednesday, January 12.
The 26th MCU movie was initially released on November 5, 2021, but the mixed to poor critical reception it received meant that many film aficionados opted to wait for Eternals' release on Disney Plus instead. Well, that and the fact that there's a global pandemic raging, which is enough to put some movie fans off from seeing the latest releases in cinemas.
Eternals, though, is due to land on Disney Plus later this week, so those Marvel fans will finally get the chance to see whether it deserves the lacklustre critical reception that it received. Not only that, but viewers will be able to stream Eternals in Disney Plus' IMAX Enhanced mode as well, which means that there'll be more action, drama and comedy on the screen due to the larger aspect ratio screen size that it supports.
Below, we'll explain why it's taken so long for one of the more recent Marvel Phase 4 flicks to launch on Disney Plus. We also cover whether Eternals is a Premier Access title like Black Widow was, or if current Disney Plus subscribers will have to stump up more cash for the privilege of viewing it.
Eternals Disney Plus release date
What is the release date for Eternals on Disney Plus?
As we revealed above, Eternals will launch on Disney Plus on January 12, 2022. Funnily enough, there were reports about when it may land on Disney Plus via Dutch website Streamwijzer.nl (per Streaming Guider), which claimed Eternals would be released on that date. So it turns out that they were right.
Like Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings before it, Eternals was given a 45-day exclusive theatrical run, as revealed on The Walt Disney Company's website in late 2021. Given that the MCU flick was released on November 5, that meant that it wouldn't arrive on the streaming platform before December 20, 2021.
However, Shang-Chi didn't come to Disney Plus exactly 45 days after its theatrical release. It didn't launch on the streamer until 70 days after its initial release, with Shang-Chi debuting in cinemas on September 3 and on Disney Plus on November 12. As Eternals is scheduled to launch on Disney Plus on January 12, it'll be 68 days since its original release.
Some fans had speculated that Eternals would launch on Disney Plus after Hawkeye's series finale. Given that Hawkeye's last episode launched on December 22, and that Eternals' exclusive theatrical period ends on December 20, some people thought that Eternals would be released in time for Christmas. That, though, was clearly incorrect.
Eternals Disney Plus Premier Access title
Will Eternals be a Disney Plus Premier Access title?
No, Eternals isn't a Disney Plus Premier Access title. Shang-Chi wasn't when it came to Disney Plus, and neither is Eternals. We reached out to Disney for confirmation on this, and they revealed that it'll be free to all Disney Plus subscribers. As long as you're a current Disney Plus subscriber, then, Eternals will be free to watch when it's released.
Eternals runtime
How long is Eternals' runtime?
Eternals is two and a half hours long. That's including its mid-credits and post-credits scenes, as well as its lengthy end credits. Hey, a lot of people work on Marvel films these days, so make sure you sit through them, alright?
Thankfully, when it does land on Disney Plus, you'll be able to pause Eternals if you need to take a bathroom break. Or to get up and find those all-important snacks. Nobody likes to go hungry while watching an enthralling Marvel movie, after all.
